Joe Needs Your Help to Find Some Very Specific Plastic Beakers and/or Lids

Say Hi to our new buddy Joe!  He is 17, and he lives in beautiful Devon with his Mum, Dad, and his older brother.  Joe loves the Tweenies and Balamory. Joe can’t talk or chew, and he has a profound learning disability and Autism. Today we are searching for a specific drinking beaker, not manufactured in well over ten years, they usually have Disney characters or popular television characters on them. They consist of a beaker, a lid and a straw.

The beaker body that we need is slightly wider at the top than the bottom and flares out at the top. The lid is rounded (this is very important as some versions of the beaker have domed or flat lids) with a small tab on one side.  We are searching for BEAKERS AND/OR LIDS – we do not need the bendy straws. It is the shape and the feel of the beaker that is important to Joe, he does not mind what colour or character it is, even pink would be great!

Tell us a little about Joe...

What can you tell us about Joe's disabilities and additional needs?

Joe can’t talk or chew, and he has a profound learning disability and Autism, which means that he is a 12-month-old baby in a teenager’s hormonal body (eek!) It takes us a long time to help him learn new skills but we have a great time celebrating with a party when he eventually gets there and learns something new. Parents of children with autism will get it!

Tell us a little about Beaker...

We are searching for a specific drinking beaker of a type usually used by a child. These beakers have been manufactured for decades and often have Disney characters or popular television characters on them. They consist of a beaker, a lid and a straw. The beaker is 15.5cm tall with lid and holds 350ml. Over the years the shape of these beakers has changed and we need a specific shape that was first for sale 15/20 years ago. The beaker body that we need is slightly wider at the top than the bottom and flares out at the top. The diameter across the top of the beaker body is 7.5 cm and the diameter across the bottom of the beaker body is 5.5cm. The lid is rounded (this is very important as some versions of the beaker have domed or flat lids) with a small tab on one side. There is a channel on the top with a hole next to the tab where the straw comes through and a second hole opposite the tab where the original straw could be stored for travelling. We are searching for BEAKERS AND/OR LIDS – we do not need the bendy straw that came with the beaker as Joe chomps his way through those. It is the shape and the feel of the beaker that is important to Joe, he does not mind what colour or character it is, even pink would be great!

Can you tell us any specific details about Beaker - who made it, where it came from, etc

In very small writing on the bottom of the cup it says ‘made in China’ and ‘vogue international ltd OX10 7LN’ and ‘art ref 6774’ I’m guessing the art ref was for the particular design which used to be on his cup before it wore away, we are not worried about what design is on the cup. I have previously googled vogue international but nothing came up then (I am not very good on computers) and I have been searching in charity shops whenever I can.

Why is Beaker so important?

Joe will only drink from these beakers and it is very important that he drinks plenty as his condition means that he cannot control his body temperature and he gets dehydrated very quickly.

How would you describe the current situation?

We only have two of these cups left and they are so old and worn that the tops do not fit tightly and fall off easily and the plastic is cracking. We are desperate to find some more as Joe won’t drink from any other cup even though we have tried so hard to find an alternative. It is really important that we manage to find some replacements but also plenty of spares to last Joe for the foreseeable future.

Joe struggles with so much in his life and asks for so little. He is really the most amazing young man and we love him so very much. It is a really scary feeling knowing that before too long we might not be able to get enough fluids into him. It is hard to put into words how much it would mean to us to have a few spare beakers in the cupboard. We would be so very grateful for any help you can give us in finding some more cups for Joe. We have tried very hard to replace the cups with a similar type but he knows every inch of these particular ones and won't drink from anything else. I am really worried about how we will manage when the two we have finally crack or leak so badly that we cant use them. Thank you for helping us.

The way this works is not magic, it’s all about SHARING.  If you want to help Joe find some Plastic Beakers and/or lids we need you to like and share this search with all your family and friends, but importantly, we need you to tell them to do the same.

Chances are none of our amazing Followers has one of these in a cupboard, but if you all share it, and those people share it too, and so on, someone down the line may well have one, and if they see the picture pop up in their feed they may well be able to help Joe.

Liking and commenting is good too!
